Piersig and Weldon
finish 1st and 2nd 8-25-2006
Every team fielding multiple cars dreams of that "one - two finish" in a Feature
Race. When we talk to children about living a "Drug Free Lifestyle" we tell them
that their "Dreams Can Become Reality", there is no better way to prove it!
Friday 8-25-2006 our team's "Dream Became Reality" as Mike Piersig (#77), and
Andrew Weldon (# 76A) battled to a First and Second place finish at Bridgeport
Speedway in the Sprint Division.
The night started with Weldon earning his division leading 4th heat race victory
with a very dominate performance. During the Feature race Piersig and Weldon
took advantage of opportunities to position them selves in first and second
place before the last caution of the race at lap 18. Piersig was not to be
denied the feature win with a good jump on the re-start, Weldon fended off a
challenge from Palmucci to hold on to second place.
Piersig posted his second victory of 2006 and regained the points lead with 4
more races left in the season. "We are in it to the end" was Piersig's comment
in the winner's circle, Weldon remains solidly in 5th for points gaining more
points to move closer to the championship. "We have 4 races left with the last
being for double points, I feel we still have a great shot at a championship if
we can stay on top of our game" said Weldon after the race.
Shaffer Motorsports is grateful for the support of our sponsors, Boeing
Helicopter Credit Union, Comcast Cable, Vanderbrakk Plumbing, Spatz Fiberglass,
SignScape Custom Signs,, Heritage Moving Systems, Best Western of Concordville,
Mike Piersig Plowing, and Penn Del Auto Parts. We would not exist without our
sponsors, and we hope we can continue to make them proud of their support of
Shaffer Motorsports.

Mike Piersig wins Sprint Opener at Bridgeport Speedway
Some people know how to make a grand exit, and know how to make grand entrance. Mike
Piersig knows how to do both by winning the last scheduled race of 2005 and the season
opener of 2006 at Bridgeport Speedway!
Mike's patience, and acute driving skills keeping him near the front of the field
throughout the feature allowed him to take advantage the mistakes made by a few drivers to
capture the lead and the win in GRAND style.
A six year veteran driving Sprint Cars, Mike is show everyone that he is a force to be
reckoned with on the track by winning his Heat and Feature races on opening day. Mike is
currently racing for 2.50 a lap in the Racing For Children, "Pennies A lap"
program to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware raising 50.00 for the families of
seriously ill or injured children. Every week more people are pledging "Pennies A
Lap" so we should see the total grow during the course of the 2006 season at
Bridgeport Speedway. Anyone wishing to pledge with Mike or Andrew to benefit the Ronald
McDonald House of Delaware can go to www.shaffermotorsports.com
and download a pledge form and mail it to:
Shaffer Motorsports
101 West Ruddy Duck Circle

Or bring the form to Bridgeport Speedway and drop it off at Tom & Sandy Racing Video's
booth.
"He drove a perfect race, he knows he has a great car, his crew lead by Ron Lamond
are focused and committed to providing Mike with the best support"
" It's wonderful to see Mike do so well, he is such a hard worker, the ultimate team
player, Tom and I are very proud of Mike and our Team" said Sandy Shaffer.
The second team car driven by Andrew Weldon also had a great night, starting 16th in a
field of 22 cars, Andrew battled forward to finish 8th providing Shaffer Motorsports with
two cars in the top ten for the Feature Race.
"What can I say about Andrew, he doesn't know how to give up. It's extremely hard to
move up when you start that far back but he always finds a way. He's a great driver with a
keen ability to look ahead and take advantage of opportunities to advance". " We
had a problem with a coolant leak, some of the water was misting back on his helmet so he
was out of tearoffs pretty quick and was resorting to wiping his face shield off
constantly throughout the race"." With that as a distraction, plus worrying
about over heating and watching the temperature gauge he was still able to advance through
the field". Tom Shaffer

Tom & Sandy Shaffer at the Urban Youth Racing School
Awards Banquet
Sandy and I were invited to attend the Urban Youth Racing School annual awards banquet on
3-22-05 as special guests of the founder Anthony Martin. Bryan Vickers (Nextel Cup) and
Rick Crawford (Craftsman Truck), supporters of UYRS for many years were on hand to sign
autographs, and present awards to the children. The Urban Youth Racing School (www.urbanyouthracingschool.com) was
founded 7 years ago by Tony Martin for inner city youth to enhance their life skills
by using Motorsports as the magnet and education as the compass (ref UYRS web site).
They also train the students to race the Mini Cup Cars competing in many races
around the country.
Sandy and I participated in one of the many Celebrity Shoot Outs with the
UYRS, it a wonderful program for inner city youth with the children being focused on
achieving positive goals through education, and learning about the many opportunities
Motorsports has to offer. Other Nextel Drivers such as Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordon
have also support UYRS events and programs in the past.
Tonight we witnessed one hundred very proud and talented recent graduates receive their
well-earned awards, and scholarships. We were very impressed with the organization of the
whole event; it was first class all the way! You can read more about the UYRS banquet and
more about some local dirt tracks in tomorrows Philadelphia Inquire article written by
Pete Schnatz. Pete as you probably know has been very kind to local Grass
Roots racing teams and tracks providing many articles highlighting local teams and
tracks. Be sure to support Petes efforts like he has been supporting the local
racing scene by getting a copy of Wednesdays Inquire.

Sandy and I sincerely thank Tony Martin for his generous invitation to attend the UYRS
Awards Banquet, and look forward to supporting their programs in the near future.

Parade Laps for the Daytona 500 courtesy of Race Against Drugs
A special invitation for the Shaffers to participate in the pre-race parade laps for the
Daytona 500 was extended to Tom and Sandy Shaffer by Race Against Drugs, headquartered in
Daytona Florida (www.raceagainstdrugs.org).
The Shaffers will be riding in one of the Race Against Drugs trucks providing them
with a unique view the Speedway and the pre race festivities. To NASCAR Fans,
Daytona is like the Holy Grail of racing I just cant imagine how thrilling it will
be, and what an honor to be selected to participate! It will also have a special meaning
for us since we both were, and forever will be Dale Earnhardt fans. We were returning home
from the Motorama Show in Harrisburg listening to the final laps of the Daytona 500 on the
Radio when Dale crashed, we were in shock for the rest of the ride home.
Shaffer Motorsports has been volunteering on behalf of Race Against Drugs since 2001,
helping Children and Young Adults to realize by making the right choices, and living a
Drug Free Lifestyle their Dreams Can Become Reality. To date over 10,000
children and young adults have signed the Race Against Drugs, Drug Free Pledge
at shows and events Shaffer Motorsports has participated in.
None of this would be possible without our sponsors, Comcast Cable, Boeing
Helicopters Credit Union, Heritage Moving Systems, Bennigans Restaurants, they all
pitch in to help us at various events. Our devoted and dedicated crew members Pete and
,Terry Jablonski, Ron Lamond, Kathy, and Alan Buzby, and Kevin Shaffer freely giving their
time to help in the pits and events makes it a real team effort all year around. I know
there are thousands of children that appreciate all their efforts and support.
