Hoag Back In Full Command At Black Rock

DUNDEE, NY - Effective Thurs., Feb. 23, Dean Hoag will assume full responsibilities associated with the management of Black Rock Speedway in Dundee, N.Y.
Hoag bought the speedway prior to the '05 season and had Chris Marquart at the helm as promoter of the four-tenths-mile oval for year one.
Brett Deyo was named general manager/promoter on Feb. 2 but has stepped away from that role, effective immediately. Deyo will return to Accord (N.Y.) Speedway, where he has worked since the 1999 season, on Friday evenings.
Questions regarding Black Rock Speedway should be directed to Dean Hoag at (607) 382-8613.

March 4-5 Rock Maple Sno X Event at Black Rock Canceled

DUNDEE, NY - The Rock Maple Racing Sno X event scheduled for March 4-5 at Black Rock Speedway has been canceled.
The reason: lack of snow.
"We're missing one major element," noted track owner Dean Hoag on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 22. "Who would've ever thought we wouldn't have snow in Dundee at this time of year?"
Hoag opted to pull the plug on the event prior to the sanctioning organization's cutoff (March 2) after carefully looking over the extended forecast and the minimum requirements to host the RMR racers.
The next event on the BRS calendar is the CarQuest Motorsports Expo at The New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, N.Y., March 10-12. The Arnot Mall Show on April 1-2 is the final pre-season event before the stock cars roar to life on Sat., April 8 with open practice.
A temporary hosting issue has sidelined the Black Rock Speedway website. It will be restored as soon as possible to www.blackrockspeedway.net.

Black Rock Speedway To Open With "Rock Launcher" Weekend April 14-15

DUNDEE, NY - Most Northeast speedways are content with one Opening Night.
Not Black Rock Speedway.
The Dundee, N.Y., four-tenths-mile oval will roar to life with the 1st Annual "Rock Launcher Weekend" on April 14-15. The highlight of the two-day affair will be a 35-lap, $1,000-to-win main for the T3 All-Star Series 358-Modifieds on Sat., April 15.
The Fri., April 14 program includes point season lid-lifters for the Super Stocks, Pro Trucks and Figure Eights, plus One-on-One Spectator Races and open practice. Race time is 6:45 p.m. Adult admission is $5.
Saturday's show is a must-see for race fans in the Twin Tiers. Stars from Black Rock, Woodhull (N.Y.) and surrounding speedways will converge on the BRS clay to see who's best with extra cash on the line.
Last year, Kenny Shupp's T3 All-Star Series averaged 35 cars per event in its inaugural season. Indications are the '06 campaign will bring bigger numbers.
Dylan Dewert (April 16) and Steve Paine (Sept. 23) were T3 All-Star victors at Black Rock last year. Billy Van Pelt was the first-ever T3 champion.
The BRP CanAm 360 Late Models will make their first of two '06 appearances at BRS on Saturday, running a 30-lap main. Jeff Chesebro swept the BRP CanAm stops at Black Rock in 2005, winning on Sept. 23 and Oct. 15.
Street Stocks, Four Cylinders (in a special "Bunny 20" Easter-themed feature) and Bandits will complete the Saturday program, opening up their championship bouts. Starting time for day two is 3 p.m. Adult admission is $12.
Before cars hit the speedway on Saturday, a Kids' Easter Egg Hunt will be held in the grandstand area.
"I'm looking forward to a great start to Black Rock's season," said general manager/promoter Brett Deyo, who was hired by track owner Dean Hoag on Feb. 2.
"We've got a busy two days to start the year, but what better way to shake off the long winter?"
One week prior to the "Rock Launcher Weekend," BRS will host an open practice on Sat., April 8 at 3 p.m. Pit admission is $15. In the event of rain or wet grounds, the practice will be postponed until Thurs., April 13 at 6:45 p.m.
The finishing touches are being placed on Black Rock's '06 schedule, which looks to be one of the most ambitious in the track's history. Over 45 events have already been scheduled, with more in the working stages.
The schedule will be released in the coming weeks and should be distributed at the CarQuest Motorsports Expo at The New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, N.Y. on March 10-12.
Black Rock will also be represented at the Arnot Mall on April 1-2. Entry forms for the show are available on the speedway website.
Sponsorships for the 2006 season are on sale now. Contact Brett Deyo for more information.
Deyo can be reached by calling the speedway office at (607) 243-8686 or (845) 728-2781, or via e-mail at Deyo99H@aol.com. Black Rock Speedway is on the web at www.blackrockspeedway.net.
Black Rock Speedway is a proud member of the Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce.

Brett Deyo Named Black Rock Speedway General Manager/Promoter

DUNDEE, NY - Black Rock Speedway will have some new blood at the helm for the 2006 season.
Track owner Dean Hoag named Brett Deyo the general manager/promoter of the four-tenths-mile oval on Feb. 2. Deyo will begin preparations for the 2006 season immediately.
"I'm thrilled to have this opportunity," said Deyo, 23, who will relocate from his home in southeastern New York to the Corning, N.Y., area in the coming weeks to handle day-to-day operations from an office on the speedway premises.
"I've known Dean and Alex Hoag for several years and I look forward to having the opportunity to work with them. Black Rock is a first-class facility with a great group of competitors.
"To me, the potential and the possibilities for Black Rock are limitless."
Hoag, son of racing legend Dutch Hoag, purchased the speedway from Lin and Cindy Hough prior to the 2005 season and immediately received a hand's-on lesson in short-track operations.
At the year-end Awards Banquet on Jan. 14, he compared his initial efforts at BRS to skydiving.
"Owning a track is far different from owning a car. Now instead of worrying about one car, I have 110 to worry about," he said.
While Hoag was content with the speedway's progress in year one, he felt that running the operation in conjunction with his other business ventures was "way too much for one person."
That's where Deyo came into play.
"I need another person to be in the office, getting sponsors lined up, knocking on doors and dealing with the everyday tasks that go along with running a speedway.
"Brett and I met when he was doing work for Trackside magazine some time ago, but we've kept in touch. I'm glad we were able to work something out for him to come on board."
A May 2005 graduate of Marist College (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) with a degree in communications/journalism, Deyo is a columnist/race reporter for Area Auto Racing News and editor-at-large for Dick Berggren's Speedway Illustrated magazine.
He's performed various tasks, including media/public relations, handicapper, scorer and announcer, at Accord (N.Y.) Speedway, Five Mile Point (N.Y.) Speedway, Orange County (N.Y.) Fair Speedway, Lake Moc-A-Tek (Pa.) Speedway and Kauneonga (N.Y.) Speedway. He started his career in motorsports at age 15.
Deyo has worked closely with Andrew Harpell on the Race of Champions Dirt Modified and Sportsman Tours since their inception in March 2005.
At Black Rock, Deyo will deal primarily with scheduling, sponsor hunting, media/public relations and community relations, along with office-type tasks and overall execution of events. On race night, he'll chip in on the microphone as well.
"Right now, my main priority is to collaborate with Dean on getting the schedule done and putting sponsors in place," Deyo said.
"The facility layout at Black Rock, complete with luxury VIP rooms, makes it a dream for sponsors, who will get to enjoy their night at the track and get their name out in front of more than 2,000 attendees."
Deyo said the speedway would continue Friday-night action featuring 358-Modifieds, Super Stocks, Pro Trucks, Street Stocks, Four Cylinders, Bandits and, new for 2006, Figure Eights (of the four cylinder variety).
The '06 schedule is in the working stages. Tentatively, an open practice is slated for Sat., April 8, with the lid-lifting weekend set for Fri.-Sat. April 14-15 headlined by the T3 All-Star Series 358-Modifieds. A handful of Saturday specials have been penciled in to accompany the regular weekly shows.
The annual Bully Hill Vineyards 360 Sprint Car National two-day event is set for Sept. 8-9.
Detailed schedule information will be announced in the coming weeks.
Black Rock Speedway will participate in the CarQuest Motorsports Expo March 10-12 at The New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, N.Y.
Black Rock will also be a major player in Arnot Mall Show, slated for April 1 and 2. Entry information will be provided as it becomes available. The Arnot Mall is located between Elmira and Corning in Chemung County, N.Y.
For more information on Black Rock Speedway, contact Deyo by phone at (845) 728-2781 or via e-mail at Deyo99H@aol.com. Owner Dean Hoag can be reached at (607) 382-8613. The track's official website is: www.blackrockspeedway.net.

LOOSE STONES: Deyo said complete sponsorship packages would be available by Feb. 9. He will be in the area beginning Fri., Feb. 10 to interact with local businesses....
While he is a rookie promoter, Deyo has several pools of knowledge just a phone call away. "Andy (Harpell) and Gary (Palmer, of Accord Speedway) have offered to help me out," he said. "And I've got great working relationships with a number of other promoters and touring series directors."....
Expect an overhaul of the BRS website in the near future....
Chris Marquart, who was instrumental in Dean Hoag's first season at BRS, has moved on to take a full-time position with The Finger Lakes Times....
